I got a sanyo FH1 and can record in 1080p 60f. It lags when I play it on my laptop T3400.

Does anyone knows if this acer handles it well?

Thanks.

To play 1080p video you need to offload the video to the graphics chip.
Eventually, more programs will support this but currently the best way to do this is to install the K-Lite Codec Pack (Standard or Full) and use the included Windows Media Player Home Cinema (WMP-HC).

You need to enable DXVA for AVC and VC-1. I could not find out if MPEG2 was also supported but it's easy to find out.

Too ensure it's working, go into the settings to make sure it's enabled, then try running a video with and without it enabled and look at your CPU. To monitor your CPU, open the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL). Also check "Hide..", "Minimize.." and change "update  Speed" to LOW.

You also want the program "MediaInfo." You can right-click any video, choose MediaInfo and it will show you your Video, Container, Audio and Subtitle information. You are mainly looking to see if it's AVC, VC-1 (and maybe MPEG2).

You can try downloading trailers. Not all are in the correct format. Most BluRay rips are AVC. MKV (Matroska container), AVC (Video codec) and AC3 or DTS (audio codecs) are the most common. When installing K-Lite be sure to first uninstall any other codec packs. *Windows Media Center needs 64-bit codecs if you have a 64-bit Operating System; 32-bit Windows works fine with just the 32-bit version of K-Lite. Currently AVC and VC1 do NOT get offloaded from the CPU so you need to use WMP-HC.

It sounds complicated, but do this:
0) Uninstall any codec packs and REBOOT
1) got to www.free-codecs.com and download and Install (or run directly to install) K-Lite Codec Pack FULL (or Standard) and MediaInfo
2) be sure DXVA is enabled
3) find a video and check it with MediaInfo
4) CTRL-ALT-DEL to monitor CPU usage
5) run the video and monitor your CPU usage
6) repeat with DXVA disabled and monitor your CPU usage

*1080p video is likely unplayable using your CPU without offloading to the GPU. I hope this helps. Expect more programs to support this GPU including Firefox and Internet Explorer 9 (sometime in 2010).

Here are my steps.

1) Use VLC.
2) If it lags, the video card on your laptop cant handle it and your out of luck.

This Revo will have not problem playing 1080p material as it uses the Ion platform for rendering video.

BluRay:
BluRay movies are mostly AVC and VC1. There were some initial MPEG2 versions but this disappeared once they got their act together (HD-DVD forced BluRay prematurely to get products out).

So this computer can play BluRay using software that supports GPU offloading (you will need to find out which ones do). As well you would need a BluRay reader. Until prices drop  I'm inclined to recommend a STANDALONE. You could probably get a LiteON reader and USB case for $100 or more if you shop around. My recommendation is to wait and get a BluRay/DVD burner and reader once it drop s below $100.

The important thing is this computer can handle BluRay (not sure about MPEG2 encoded discs. You'd need to find an MPEG2 video. All DVD-Video discs are MPEG2 so you can use WMPC-HC to play it. It's actually a very good DVD player. You can monitor your CPU usage with and without DXVA for MPEG2 enabled.)

VLC vs WMPC-HC:
Playback of a 1080p BluRay rip shows the difference between GPU offloaded and CPU processed. VLC has no GPU offloading for AVC/VC1. Results are for PEAK System CPU USAGE:
VLC: 54%
WMPC-HC: 19%
The processor is an overclocked X2-4800+ (basically an X2-6000+). The Atom 330 will play the movie with WMPC-HC using DXVA but will not work with VLC as it's too slow.

I've the Revo for past couple of months and it can play 1080p just fine...although I only have 720p tv, I had no problem playing bourne ultimatum trailer in h264 using media player classic OR the pre-installed PowerDVD. I tested with both ffdshow codec and coreAVC and it works just find on both. CoreAVC is commercial and cost around $15 while ffdshow is freely available.

The only issue Revo initially had was playing hulu and youtube HD videos. That issue has been resolved since adobe issued their 10.1 flash player which uses gpu acceleration allowing revo's ion gpu to process most of the stuff. Install latest driver 195.62 from nvidia and then install 10.1 beta flash player and hulu and youtube HD plays perfectly.

All in all Revo so far has proven to be perfrect htpc. The market now need more choices in htpc remote controls/wireless keyboards etc to compliment.
